O týmu / about
R.U.R. is a robotics team that competes every year in the international FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). We are the only team from the Czech Republic and we are students of PORG gymnasium and our mentors are PORG graduates. Everything started in 2015 when one of then-students Jáchym Solecký (who was in 11th grade) studied for a year at Breck School, our partner school in Minneapolis, MN where he joined their robotics team Stampede, which has been in the competition for some time.
Jáchym was so excited by this project so that when he returned, he and our physics teacher Jakub Haláček founded the first FRC team in the Czech Republic. With a great amount of help from our school and Breck robotics team, we were able to create a fully functional robot which achieved immense success, all with in a very improvised environment. More and more new members were joining in the following years not only from PORG Libeň but as well from our sister school located at the other end of Prague who later graduated as experienced team members.
The most important thing about robotics for us is the enjoyment and the different style of learning. Some of us love building these machines so much that they would be willing to sleep in the lab. FRC gives us the opportunity to broaden our knowledge of mechanical principles, it is a great way to apply the theory that we learn at school and to learn how to overcome obstacles that we face each year. Some of us found the mechanics or programming so exciting that they decided to study these subjects at universities.
We are open to collaboration with anyone, just get in touch with us!
